TV Size FAQ
Real questions. Plain answers. No jargon.
What's the best TV size for 10 feet away?
For a 10-foot viewing distance with a 4K TV, a 65-inch TV is ideal. The formula is simple: distance (feet) × 7.5 = recommended size in inches. So 10 × 7.5 = 75, and we round to the nearest common size, which is 65 or 75 inches. Either works great.
Should I buy a 55 inch or 65 inch TV for my living room?
It depends on how far you sit! If you sit 7-8 feet away, a 55-inch is perfect. If you sit 9-10 feet away, go for 65 inches. A bigger TV is almost always better — the most common regret people have is buying too small, not too big.
Does it matter if I buy 4K or 1080p for TV size?
Yes. With a 4K TV, you can sit much closer without seeing any pixels, so you can go bigger at the same distance. For 1080p, the formula is distance × 5.5. So at 8 feet, a 4K TV should be 60 inches, while a 1080p TV should be around 44 inches.
Is a 75 inch TV too big for a bedroom?
Usually yes, for most bedrooms. In a bedroom, people typically sit 5-7 feet from the TV, where a 40-55 inch TV is ideal. A 75-inch TV works well in living rooms where you sit 10-12 feet away. That said, there's no such thing as 'too big' if you have the room — just make sure you won't feel overwhelmed.
What TV size is best for a small apartment?
In a small apartment where you're typically 5-6 feet from the TV, a 43-50 inch 4K TV is the sweet spot. It fills your view nicely without being overwhelming. If your space is really tight (under 5 feet), a 40-43 inch TV keeps things comfortable.
Do I need to worry about viewing angle when buying a TV?
Not much for most buyers. The calculator here already accounts for a comfortable viewing angle (around 30°). Just match your TV size to your sitting distance and you'll be fine. Only worry about viewing angle if multiple people often watch from very different seats.
